Journey of a Global Leader

Sébastien Locteau, a Human Capital Management Global Product Manager with a PhD in Business, is a man of many experiences and perspectives. His unique journey has taken him from the battlefields of France to the Olympic Games, and from the boardrooms of multinationals to the heart of the Irish sporting community.

Sebastien's story began in France, where he served as a Chief Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Defence Special Rescue Operations. In this role, he led a team of nurses, doctors, and emergency technicians providing medical care to soldiers and civilians in the field. He faced life-threatening situations, engaged in logistical, intelligence, and security actions, and managed highly stressful environments.

After leaving the military, Sebastien turned his attention to the world of sports. He became a Director of People Operations at Sports Ireland, where he built a team of highly skilled coaches and managers to support over 1500 athletes. He led technology team engagement, managed executive partnerships, and shaped and implemented influential people strategies and programmes. Under his leadership, Irish athletes achieved success at five Olympic Games, World and European level.

His expertise in Human Capital Management (HCM) led him to SAP SuccessFactors, where he served as an EMEA Customer Success Manager and a Global Product Manager. In these roles, he led teams of consultants, managed projects, and implemented SAP SuccessFactors solutions for multinational organizations. He developed a deep understanding of global supply chain manufacturing and distribution, and he became an expert in Agile methodology, product & change management, and business partnering. 

His a passion for technology and innovation led him to become the Director of Information Technology for Let's Run Ireland Ltd, the largest Irish athletics portal website. In this role, he coached and managed a team of project managers, product owners, and developers in a fast-changing digital transformation environment. He oversaw retail finances, developed new people & finance technology, and identified and recommended new technology solutions.

Sebastien's commitment to education and continuous learning is evident in his academic achievements. He holds a Master of Leadership in HR Technology from Deakin University, a Certificate of Higher Education in Applied Psychology from The University of Derby, and a Brevet d’État d’éducateur Sportif (Sports Science and Medicine) from the French Ministry of Sports, Health and Youth. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Business at Trinity College Dublin. Seb's dedication to his work has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He has received awards for his contributions to technology, living Specsavers' values and behaviours, going above and beyond, and demonstrating Specsavers' behaviours. He has also been recognized for his work in embracing change and for his contributions to the Olympic Games.

Seb Locteau is a man of action, a leader, and a visionary. He is a role model for others, and his story is an inspiration to us all.

Self-reflection in self-isolation

I have been a military nurse and later an international coach for years. Like, everyone, I read, listen and watch carefully what is going on. I notice an increase of public panic and paranoia. Increase of articles trying to find faults in everything and a way to blame someone. Teachers are criticised for not home-schooling children immediately. Do people didn’t notice we are in an unprecedented emergency? Children will catch up soon enough, a few months won’t harm them. You as a parent are the ones putting that pressure with a deadline to pass exams and compete with other parents.  As a parent, you are responsible to educate them. What a great opportunity to learn more about hygiene, viruses, manners toward vulnerable people or even career options. What more valuable education are you looking for? 2017 coaching results review

This year I really need to thanks our amazing training centre in Renmore the KingFisher club, and the support of the entire staff and especially Brian Clancy who, without a doubt, made our team a massive success in 2017 : I retired from full time coaching after the Rio Olympic Games in Agust 2016. I left Claremorris and Bluefin Swimming Club head coach positions with the feeling that I let my team down. I certainly cried a lot and wonder if it was the right thing to do, but I knew the people taking over could be trusted and would do a great job with a good legacy. I thought I left enough guidance and knowledge for them to grow and become their own inspiration to the new generations. But my heart was broken to leave my teams, as it happened in the past. But at the end of the day, I reached the best I had in me with the limited resources I had at the time.
