Series finale !

Another sunny day over the Irishtown stadium today. Today fm, SPAR, Runireland crew were helped by the Crusaders AC for the final set up of the last 5k race today.
Sonia O'Sullivan was our guest, and Maired Farell from Today FM our leader for the event. Will Hanafin was brilliant as usual and with Alan O'Donohoe, I really had a great time in the last 5 days.
I was very lucky to have Lilly Muldoon and her children today, they just did all the set up and work you saw on the pictures. The two teenager were just fantastic, with a great spirit and were a great crew for runireland.
We had a nice photo shoot with Sonia O'Sullivan who held a big number 5 and myself caring the little "K" at the bottom. Not sure how the picture came off after me going around trying to get the sponsors on the shot, and dealing with the participants.
The race had 800 participants and went as it should, very well organised, helpers and marshalls every where with a strong ambulance and first aid presence.
The structure and location of the track is exceptional, really enjoyed the place. After the event we had a good few other photoshoot with Sonia and guys from Today FM...... then my time for glory end, back to be what I am supposed to be : "a coach"
I admire Sonia, Ray, Will, Mairead, Jenny and real celebrities who just have to keep smiling and show they are happy to the general public. The truth is simple. You have to be already a positive and a people person to be able to do it. It's not just an act, it's part of their personality and what they are made of. The same way talented athltetes are just talented.

Self-reflection in self-isolation

I have been a military nurse and later an international coach for years. Like, everyone, I read, listen and watch carefully what is going on. I notice an increase of public panic and paranoia. Increase of articles trying to find faults in everything and a way to blame someone. Teachers are criticised for not home-schooling children immediately. Do people didn’t notice we are in an unprecedented emergency? Children will catch up soon enough, a few months won’t harm them. You as a parent are the ones putting that pressure with a deadline to pass exams and compete with other parents.  As a parent, you are responsible to educate them. What a great opportunity to learn more about hygiene, viruses, manners toward vulnerable people or even career options. What more valuable education are you looking for? 2017 coaching results review

This year I really need to thanks our amazing training centre in Renmore the KingFisher club, and the support of the entire staff and especially Brian Clancy who, without a doubt, made our team a massive success in 2017 : I retired from full time coaching after the Rio Olympic Games in Agust 2016. I left Claremorris and Bluefin Swimming Club head coach positions with the feeling that I let my team down. I certainly cried a lot and wonder if it was the right thing to do, but I knew the people taking over could be trusted and would do a great job with a good legacy. I thought I left enough guidance and knowledge for them to grow and become their own inspiration to the new generations. But my heart was broken to leave my teams, as it happened in the past. But at the end of the day, I reached the best I had in me with the limited resources I had at the time.
